Day 1- July 5, 2023 London
Arrive in London, drop off your bags and enjoy the wonderful area of South Kensington and Knightsbridge. Meet for our welcome dinner with Walter and Alex Meals: Welcome Dinner Accommodations: Hotel Rembrandt Day 2 - July 6, 2023 Oxford and Bourton-on-the-Water After breakfast we are driving to Oxford. We will stop at the Oxford Botanical Garden, the oldest in the UK. We will visit for a few hours before heading to Bourton-on-the-Water where we will be staying for the next 4 nights. Check-in and have our first painting session with Walter. We’ll meet for dinner together in town. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Accommodations: The Lansdowne Guest House Day 3 - July 7, 2023 Bourton-on-the-Water Bourton-on-the-Water is a popular destination with gently flowing River Windrush running through the center of the village and crossed by attractive little bridges. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Accommodations: The Lansdowne Guest House Day 4 - July 8, 2023 Broadway and Snowshill Our first stop and session is the unspoiled village of Snowshill, surrounded by the Cotswolds hills. Next Broadway, the phrase ‘quintessentially British’ was never more true than when applied to this beautiful corner of the Cotswolds. Honey coloured ‘chocolate-box’ Cotswold stone cottages and red horse chestnut trees line the streets of this historic village, one of the most picturesque of the Cotswolds. Full workshop day. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Accommodations: The Lansdowne Guest House Day 5 - July 9, 2023 Lower and Upper Slaughter The twin villages of Lower and Upper Slaughter lie on the shallow River Eye, a few miles north of Bourton-on-the-Water. With its flower-draped cottages, stone footbridges and picturesque water mill, the small village of Lower Slaughter hasn’t changed for more than a century, with no building work taking place at all since 1906. Day 6 - July 10, 2023 Bibury, Malmesbury and Stanton
After breakfast we’ll head south to Stanton. Along the way our first stop will be in the town of Bibury. There's no doubt that Bibury is featured on many lists of most beautiful Cotswold villages, and even the most beautiful villages in the UK. After our morning session we’ll stop in Malmesbury. England’s oldest borough and the stunning 12th century Abbey lies right in the center of town. Full workshop day. Walter will guide the group to the best locations in town. We’ll check into our hotel The Stanton Manor. Dinner together as a group. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Accommodations: The Stanton Manor Day 7 - July 11, 2023 Castle Combe We are saving the best for last, Castle Combe. We'll spend the next two days painting in this charming village. Walter will guide the group to the best locations in town. Dinner together as a group. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Accommodations: The Stanton Manor Day 8 - July 12, 2023 Castle Combe Second day in Castle Combe.Walter will guide the group to the best locations in town. A 90 minute guided tour of the city and a visit to the romans baths. After our visit we’ll have afternoon tea. Next we’ll say goodbye to the Cotswolds and head to London, check in to our hotel by the airport. My partner does not paint, is there something for him/her to do? Yes, we are painting about 6-7 hours a day. Most locations are in villages or places of interest. There is ample time and things for a non-painter to do and explore. The Cotswolds have many golf courses, hiking trails, museums and are very walkable and easy to explore. How many hours a day will we be painting? Every day we will be painting a minimum of 6-8 hours. There will also be the option for sunset and night painting. We list daily in the itinerary the estimated hours for each day. We start off lighter and increase the hours as the week progresses. Is my deposit of $400 refundable? No, we have limited space and need a commitment from each guest. Please note that the deposit of $400 per guest is NON-REFUNDABLE except in the case that the trip does not meet the minimum number of participants. Where are we staying? The Rembrandt Hotel - across the road from the Victoria and Albert Museum. The hotel’s location in central London couldn’t be better. You'll be right between two of London’s most fashionable areas – South Kensington and Knightsbridge – within walking distance of museums, theaters, Harrods and Hyde Park. The Lansdowne Guest House - the Lansdowne Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful family owned B&B just on the edge of Bourton on the Water, the 'Venice of the Cotswolds.The property is adults only and boasts 16 individually decorated guest rooms all with en suite bathrooms and luxurious extra touches. It also boasts an award winning breakfast. The Stanton Manor - steeped in history and listed in the Domesday Book the hotel, once owned by Lord Burghley, Elizabeth 1’s Lord High Treasurer, was rebuilt in 1840 and retains the original fireplace in the galleried hall. How do we pack? We have two pre-meeting at the Yellow Barn Studio before the trip to explain packing and general information. Both meetings are broadcast live for those that can't physically attend. Do I need Travel Insurance? Where can I purchase Insurance? We highly recommend Travel Insurance. Travel insurance is based on many factors and the price varies from person to person. Is my flight included?
No, This is a land package only. How do I book my flights? As soon as the group is formed we will be sending out airfare quotes from the surrounding DC area. If you are out of state or have extended dates you can contact Carol Symington, csymington@AAASJ.COM and we can help you book our flights. If booking your own airfare: Departure from the USA no later than Tuesday, July 4, 2023 to the London area airports. Walter Bartman workshop ends Friday, July 14, 2023 out of the London. Please send us your flight information asap to info@tiernotours.com. How do I get from the airport to the Hotel? Day 1 each guest will get there own transfer to the hotel in London. A taxi is about 30£. On Day 8 we have a transfer for all guests. If you are coming in before the workshop Pasquale(our host)will be at The Rembrandt Hotel from July 3rd to greet you. It is in the historic center within walking distance of all the main sites. How much is the cost of the Transfer? Private taxi about 30£ for 2 persons with bags, shared minivan 80£ up to 4/5 persons with bags. We will help everyone based on all your plans before and after the workshop to get the best rates for airfare and transfers. |
