Day 1 – April 1: Arrival in Bari (BRI) – Welcome to Puglia
Arrive at Bari Airport, where a private transfer will greet you and escort you to your accommodation. Settle in at the charming Hotel Residence Il Porto. Take this time to relax and soak in the Mediterranean atmosphere.
In the evening, join Walter Bartman and fellow participants for a convivial welcome dinner hosted by Walter and Alex Bartman. This is the perfect opportunity to get acquainted, hear about the exciting workshop ahead, and experience authentic Apulian cuisine.

We’ll bid farewell to our fellow painters and embark on the next leg of our journey through the captivating regions of Puglia and Basilicata. After a hearty breakfast, we depart for the salt pans of Margherita di Savoia. If fortune smiles upon us, we’ll witness graceful flamingos feeding in their natural habitat during their April migration.
Our next stop is the impressive Castel del Monte, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site steeped in mystery and history. For lunch, delight in the rural flavours of Puglia at Antichi Sapori, a Michelin-recommended restaurant offering some of the region’s finest gastronomic delights.
In the afternoon, we check-into our unique hotel in Matera, nestled within the iconic “Sassi” cave dwellings — a truly unforgettable stay. We’ll conclude the day with cocktails and appetisers on the terrace, soaking in the enchanting views.

My partner does not paint, is there something for him/her to do?
Yes, we are painting about 6-7 hours a day. Most locations are in villages or places of interest. There is ample time and things for a non-painter to do and explore. The area is very walkable and easy to explore. How many hours a day will we be painting? Every day we will be painting a minimum of 6-7 hours. There will also be the option for sunset and night painting. We list daily in the itinerary the estimated hours for each day. We start off lighter and increase the hours as the week progresses. Is my deposit of $1,000 refundable? No, we have limited space and need a commitment from each guest. How do we pack? We have two pre-meeting at the Yellow Barn Studio before the trip to explain packing and general information. Both meetings are broadcast live for those that can't physically attend. Do I need Travel Insurance? Where can I purchase Insurance? We highly recommend Travel Insurance. Travel insurance is based on many factors and the price varies from person to person.
