Day 1 - April 1, 2025 Grottaglie
Arrive in Bari, transfer to Grottaglie and our hotel Masseria Le Lamie, drop off your bags, and take some time to explore the wonderful hotel. In the evening, join Walter and Alex for our welcome dinner.

Please note we highly recommend coming in a few days early. We are recommending staying in the village of Polignano a Mare. This is close to the airport and is very charming. Or coming directly to Grottaglie and the hotel Masseria Le Lamie.
We will help everyone get a transfer from Bari airport to the hotel, sharing with other guests whenever possible.
Day 2 - April 2, 2025 - Grottaglie, Walt’s first demo and a ceramic class.
After breakfast, Walt will kick off the workshop with a demonstration right from the gardens of our hotel. We'll take a short break for lunch then have a ceramic class. Ceramic is one of the many items Puglia is known for. In the evening, we'll gather for a light cocktail/dinner in the Masseria.

Day 3 - April 3, 2025 - Full day workshop with Walter in Grottaglie
Enjoy a full day of painting with two 4-hour sessions in town. Lunch is on your own. In the evening, join Walt and Alex for a group dinner.

Day 4 - April 4, 2025 - Martina Franca and Alberobello
Continue your artistic journey with another full day of painting, featuring two 4-hour sessions in two breathtaking villages. Martina Franca, set in the Valle d'Itria, captivates visitors with its baroque architecture and historic palaces. Alberobello is famed for its UNESCO-listed trulli, traditional Apulian dry stone huts, creating a unique and magical atmosphere for travelers exploring this enchanting region of Italy.

Day 5 - April 5, 2025 - Porto di Monopoli, full day session
Today, we'll embark on a day trip to Porto di Monopoli, a picturesque seaside town. Boasting a charming harbor filled with colorful fishing boats. Painters can wander the medieval streets, visit historic churches, and enjoy fresh seafood at waterfront restaurants. The town's coastal beauty, rich history, and authentic Italian atmosphere make it a delightful destination to explore and paint.

Day 6 - April 6, 2025 - Cisternino and Ceglie Messapica
Today, we'll embark on a day trip to Cisternino, a charming town in Italy's Puglia region, known for its whitewashed buildings and narrow, winding streets. It offers a delightful blend of historic architecture, traditional cuisine, and a relaxed atmosphere. Painters can explore the town's picturesque alleys and choose one of the beautiful countryside views to paint. After our two sessions in Cisternino, we’ll make a stop to visit Ceglie Messapica. Ceglie Messapica, a charming town in Puglia, Italy, offers inspiration to artists with its picturesque streets, historic architecture, and vibrant local culture. Artists can find creative inspiration in the town's traditional crafts, lively markets, and stunning countryside views, making it a delightful destination for artistic exploration.

Day 7 - April 7, 2025 - Matera
Bid farewell to Grottaglie as we journey further North to Matera. Along the way, we'll make a stop at a charming village for a morning workshop, wine tasting, and lunch. Later, we'll check into our hotel in Matera.

Please note we will be staying in caves dwellings of "i sassi'. Each room is very different in size, shape and location. It is not a standard hotel. There are options for upgrades and you can choose your room after you leave a deposit.

Matera, boasts a rich history dating back to the Paleolithic era, evidenced by its cave dwellings carved into the limestone rocks. Over the centuries, Matera flourished as a thriving town, enduring various civilizations and cultural influences. Its ancient roots, unique architecture, and historical significance contribute to its UNESCO World Heritage status. Walter will guide us in two workshop sessions in the heart of the cave dwellings. We'll have dinner together upon returning from the day of painting.

Day 9 - April 9, 2025 - Full day in Matera
On our last workshop day, we'll have a fun-filled day together in Matera. Walter will guide us for another full session on our last day in “i sassi’. Our goodbye dinner will hosted by Walter and Alex in the town center.

Day 10 - April 10, 2025 - Transfer day
Today, we'll say our goodbyes as everyone flies back to the USA from Bari.
Please note Bari is 1 hour from our hotel. If possible try to book your flight for after 9:30 am.

Frequently asked questions

My partner does not paint, is there something for him/her to do?
Yes, we are painting about 6-7 hours a day. Most locations are in villages or places of interest. There is ample time and things for a non-painter to do and explore. The area is very walkable and easy to explore. How many hours a day will we be painting? Every day we will be painting a minimum of 6-8 hours. There will also be the option for sunset and night painting. We list daily in the itinerary the estimated hours for each day. We start off lighter and increase the hours as the week progresses. Is my deposit of $500 refundable? No, we have limited space and need a commitment from each guest. Please note that the deposit of $500 per guest is NON-REFUNDABLE except in the case that the trip does not meet the minimum number of participants. How do we pack? We have two pre-meeting at the Yellow Barn Studio before the trip to explain packing and general information. Both meetings are broadcast live for those that can't physically attend. Do I need Travel Insurance? Where can I purchase Insurance? We highly recommend Travel Insurance. Travel insurance is based on many factors and the price varies from person to person. Is my flight included?
No, This is a land package only. Where are we staying? We are staying 6 nights in Puglia, Italy And , 3 nights in Matera, Italy How do I book my flights? As soon as the group is formed we will be sending out airfare quotes from the surrounding DC area. If you are out of state or have extended dates you can contact Carol Symington, [email protected] and we can help you book our flights. If booking your own airfare: Departure from the USA no later than Monday, March 31, 2025 to the Bari airport. Walter Bartman workshop ends Thursday, April 10, 2025 out of Bari Airport . There is also an option to fly in and out of Rome and then take the first class high speed Trian down to Bari. Please send us your flight information asap to [email protected]. How do I get from the airport to the Hotel? Day 1 each guest will get there own transfer to the Hotel in Puglia. A taxi is about 50Euros pp. On Day 10 we will help guests get transfer to the Bari Airport . How much is the cost of the Transfer? Private taxi about 90euro for 2 persons with bags, shared minivan 200euro up to 4/5 persons with bags. We will help everyone based on all your plans before and after the workshop to get the best rates for airfare and transfers. |
