Day 1 – Friday, May 15th, Arrive in Athens
Welcome to Athens, the vibrant heart of Greece! Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and take some time to unwind and soak in the city’s energy. At 6:00 PM, meet your fellow travelers and your tour director in the hotel lobby. Together, you’ll head to a lovely dinner spot to taste authentic Greek cuisine. After dinner, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the atmospheric streets of Athens’ old town, where charming alleys and historic landmarks create an enchanting evening ambiance.

Day 2 – Saturday, May 16th, Explore Athens’ History and Culture
Dive into the rich heritage of Athens with visits to some of its most iconic sites. Start with the world-renowned Acropolis, where ancient temples like the Parthenon tell tales of Greece’s glorious past. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious lunch together at a nearby authentic Greek spot. The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace with a variety of free time options. Wander through the charming, cobbled streets of Plaka, Athens’ old town, filled with quaint shops, artisan boutiques, and inviting cafés. Alternatively, visit the Acropolis Museum or the National Archaeological Museum to dive deeper into Greece’s remarkable artistic and cultural heritage. For a memorable sight, head to Syntagma Square to witness the impressive Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where the Evzones perform their precise and colourful ritual.

Day 3 – Sunday, May 17th, Arrival in Santorini & Sunset Tasting
Welcome to the breathtaking island of Santorini! Upon arrival, you can check in or drop your bags at the hotel and take some free time to explore the vibrant town of Fira. Later, gather with your group for a unique Vegan Food and Wine Tasting Experience as the sun sets, painting the sky with sunset hues over the iconic caldera. This delightful evening introduces you to Santorini’s culinary creativity alongside stunning views. Note: Please arrange your domestic flight from Athens to Santorini in the morning as per the FAQ.

Day 4 – Monday, May 18th, Volcano, Hot Springs & Island Adventures
The day starts with a guided tour of the remarkable Akrotiri Archaeological Site, often called the ‘Minoan Pompeii’. Free time on the beach and a chance to get lunch on your own. In the afternoon climb aboard a luxury catamaran for a scenic half-day cruise, and look forward to experiencing a side of Santorini many visitors miss. See the island's volcanic landscape by sea, go swimming in hot springs, admire views of one of the oldest lighthouses in Greece, and snorkel in the sea. You'll also enjoy a traditional Greek barbecue with local wine while waiting one of the best sunsets in the world.

Day 5 – Tuesday, May 19th, Ferry to Crete & Welcome Dinner
After check out and a leisurely morning on Santorini (self-guided morning activity options will be provided on site), meet the group in the afternoon for the ferry ride to Crete, Greece’s largest island. Upon arrival in Heraklion, check into the centrally located Dimargio Hotel – your base to discover Crete’s treasures. The evening is reserved for a warm Welcome-in-Crete Dinner, offering a first taste of the island’s rich and varied culinary heritage.

Day 6 – Wednesday, May 20th, Knossos Palace & Rethymnon Heritage
Check out your hotel and begin your day delving into the mysteries of the Minoan civilization with a guided tour of Knossos Palace, Europe’s oldest city ruins, steeped in myth and history. Journey along Crete’s northern coast to the Venetian town of Rethymnon, where a late lunch awaits you at a lovely boutique restaurant featuring Cretan cuisine. Then, free time to stroll the charming old port under the impressive Venetian fortress. Late afternoon, arrive in Chania and settle into the cozy Porto Veneziano seafront hotel. The evening is free for you to relax or explore this picturesque harbor town on your own.

Day 7 – Thursday, May 21st, Discover Chania’s Old Town & Vegan Flavours
This morning, your group will be taken to the Archaeological Museum of Chania for a self-guided tour. Explore Crete’s ancient culture through its fascinating artifacts, gaining insight into the island’s rich history. Next, enjoy a 90-minute guided walk along Chania’s picturesque promenade and through the Old Town, including the scenic Venetian Harbour. Experience the charm of cobbled streets and historic architecture. For lunch, savour creative vegan dishes at a family-run slow-food restaurant, showcasing fresh, local ingredients crafted with care. In the afternoon, take free time to explore local shops and hidden gems at your own pace, soaking in the authentic atmosphere. Dinner is on your own, a perfect chance to relax and discover the delights of Chania’s Old Port by night, enjoying the vibrant local dining scene.

Day 8 – Friday, May 22nd, History, Beach & Cretan Cooking
Today begins with a moving visit to the German Military Cemetery in Maleme, remembering stories of courage and sacrifice. Then, enjoy an olive oil production tour and olive oil tasting at Biolea. 
Relaxation time on a serene sand beach near the ancient Falassarna port follows, offering a precious opportunity to soak up the tranquil beauty of this wonderful landscape. In the afternoon, join a private farm tour and cooking class on a traditional farm to learn the secrets of Cretan cuisine firsthand. Prepare and share a delicious dinner made with fresh, local ingredients—an immersive taste of Crete’s culinary heritage.

Day 9 – Saturday, May 23rd, Mountain Villages, Botanical Garden & Farewell
Venture into Crete’s mountainous heart with a morning visit to Saint Kyriaki Monastery, a peaceful spiritual retreat. Continue through lush villages and historic landmarks, then relax with mountain tea and local snacks in the charming village of Zourva. Enjoy a scenic lunch next to a freshwater spring. Then walk in the Botanical Garden amidst vibrant flora.  Return to the hotel say your good bye to Yannis and the last night on your own.

Day 10 –  Sunday, May 24th, Departure from Crete
After breakfast, bid farewell to Crete as you check out from the Porto Veneziano Hotel. A taxi transfer is arranged to take you comfortably to Chania Airport (CHQ) for your onward journey. Take with you the unforgettable memories of Crete’s history, landscapes, and warm hospitality.

Frequently asked questions
​

How many hours a day will we be walking or on a bus?
Every day we will be walking for a minimum of 3 hours. There will also be uphill streets and stairs. The bus rides vary in time of 20 minutes to 2 hours.

I am traveling alone, will I be the only one?
No, on average we have about half the group that are singles.

Is there a single supplement? And why?
Yes, there is. It's $850 for a private room. The reason we have a single supplement is because some hotels do not offer a single rate. So as a single person you are paying a full rate of the room instead of it being divided by two.

How can I avoid paying the single supplement?
We can match guests with same-sex roommates. We will connect you by email and you can see if you are compatible to share a room. 

Is my deposit of $1,000 refundable?
No, we have limited space and need a commitment from each guest. Please note that the deposit of $1,000 per guest
is NON-REFUNDABLE except in the case that the trip does not meet the minimum number of participants(6 guests).
The trip's go-status will be confirmed no later than 90 days before departure.

How do I book my flights?
As soon as the group is formed we will be sending out a confirmation email with all necessary information. You can contact our agent or if you are booking your own airfare, departure dates and airports will be listed in the confirmation email.

How do we pack?
We have a Zoom conference with the group before the trip to explain packing and general information, plus a packing list.

Do I need Travel Insurance? Where can I purchase Insurance?
We highly recommend Travel Insurance. Travel insurance is based on many factors and the price varies from person to person. You can get a quote from our agent Carol Symington, [email protected] . Please mention your tour, the dates, price and that it is Tierno Tours.

No, This is a land package only.​

Booking your own airfare:
Departure from the USA no later than Friday, May 14th arriving in Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (ATH) the tour ends on Sunday, May 24th in Crete out of the Chania International Airport Ioannis Daskalogiannis (CHQ)​.
Please note: We require all guests to purchase their own domestic flight to Santorini from Athens.There are three airlines that operate flights to Santorini:

• Ryanair
• Sky Express
• Aegean Air

Flights depart approximately every 30 minutes, with a flight duration of around 45 minutes. Each ticket includes one carry-on bag weighing up to 8 kg (18 lbs). Prices typically range between 45 and 140 euros, you can add an additional checked baggage costing about 50 euros. 
Flight times starting as early as 5:30 AM and continuing throughout the day.

We suggest all guests to be on the island by as early as possibly to enjoy a full day in santorini.

How do I get from the airport to the hotel in Athens?
Taxis are readily available just outside the airport for your convenience. You can also opt for a prepaid transfer at a fixed price for a hassle-free experience. Whenever possible, we assist guests in sharing rides to the hotel to make your journey more comfortable and economical.
