Pre tour to Bergen- june 28 to July 1, 2024
Day 1- Arrive in Bergen.
Upon arrival, each guest will receive a Bergen City Pass which provides access to many sites and most transportation options.
Drop off your bags at the hotel and grab your city pass. Have fun exploring the city on your own. In the evening, we'll gather for cocktails and dinner together at our hotel.

Day 2- Gamle Bergen
Enjoy a relaxing morning and have breakfast at the hotel. Hop on a bus and head to the Gamle Bergen (Old Bergen) Museum, located just 40 minutes outside the city. At the museum, immerse yourself in the history of Bergen. Walk alongside actors and hosts dressed in period clothing, giving you a taste of what life was like in the city in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The museum is an outdoor village consisting of charming cobbled streets and 55 historic buildings, most of which were relocated from the city center. The rest of the day is free for you to explore at your leisure. We’ll meet up for dinner at our hotel.

Day 3- The Fjords Flåm Railway
Today, we'll embark on a scenic journey through the beautiful Norwegian landscape. Start by making your way to the Bergen Railway, where you'll board a comfortable train to Voss. Switch to a bus in Voss and enjoy a ride through picturesque villages to Gudvangen. Along the way, you'll experience the famous Stalheimskleiva road, known for its hairpin turns and breathtaking views. Once in Gudvangen, board a premium fjord cruise on a modern hybrid boat. This two-hour cruise will take you through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed fjords, including Aurlandsfjord and the narrow Nærøyfjord, known for its stunning mountain scenery. Disembark in Flåm and hop on the Flåm Railway, known for its panoramic views. Capture some memorable photos of the surrounding fjords during the journey. In Myrdal, rejoin the Bergen Railway for the return trip back to Bergen.
It was a long day but worth it! We’ll have dinner together at our hotel.

Day 4 - Bergen, start the workshop with Walter Bartman
Take the morning to relax and start painting with Walter. Now with this small group it's the perfect opportunity to learn from Walter as he guides us through the streets of Bergen.
Later, meet up with the rest of the group and enjoy dinner together at our hotel.

In the afternoon, take a short break to visit iconic landmarks and experience the maritime charm of the city.
Explore the Hanseatic quarter (Bryggen) and St. Mary's Church, diving into the historical nature of Bergen.
Next, enjoy a 60-minute intimate guided cruise in Bergen's harbors and the City Fjord, offering glimpses of historical sites and picturesque views.
Free time before dinner together back at our hotel.

After breakfast, fly from Bergen to Bodø and then take a ferry to the Lofoten Islands.
Although it's a long journey, the breathtaking scenery makes it worth it.
Settle in at our workshop location in Reine, where we'll spend the next five days.

Each day, enjoy a full day of painting sessions right outside your cabin in the charming fishing village of Reine on the bay Hamnøy. Explore the history and significance of fishing in Lofoten, with its centuries-old tradition of fishing and processing stockfish. Join Walter and Alex for two painting sessions each day.
Enjoy group dinners together in the evening.

Day 9 - July 9, 2024 - Back to Bergen
Pack up and head back to Bergen, taking a ferry, flight, and taxi to reach the city.

My partner does not paint, is there something for him/her to do? Yes, we are painting about 6-7 hours a day. Most locations are in villages or places of interest. There is ample time and things for a non-painter to do and explore. How many hours a day will we be painting? Every day we will be painting a minimum of 6-8 hours. There will also be the option for sunset and night painting. We list daily in the itinerary the estimated hours for each day. We start off lighter and increase the hours as the week progresses. Is my deposit of $400 refundable? No, we have limited space and need a commitment from each guest. Please note that the deposit of $400 per guest is NON-REFUNDABLE except in the case that the trip does not meet the minimum number of participants. Where are we staying? Bergen area- Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret Lofoten Rein- Eliassen Rorbuer How do we pack? We have two pre-meeting at the Yellow Barn Studio before the trip to explain packing and general information. Both meetings are broadcast live for those that can't physically attend. Packing for Norway: My golden rule when packing and dressing for any destination in Norway is layers. Layers, layers, layers – and Bergen is no different. Additionally, Bergen can be quite a rainy city, so a waterproof jacket, good shoes for walking around the city is a must too (the city is very walkable). Do I need Travel Insurance? Where can I purchase Insurance? We highly recommend Travel Insurance. Travel insurance is based on many factors and the price varies from person to person. You can get a quote from our agent Carol Symington, [email protected] . Please mention your tour, the dates, price and that it is Tierno Tours. Is my flight included? No, This is a land package only. The domestic flight(from Bergen to Bodo) is included in the price of the tour. Tierno tours will provide and group ticket. How do I book my flights? As soon as the group is formed we will be sending out airfare quotes from the surrounding DC area.
